The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has published its annual drinking water report for 2023.
The report shows that more than 99% of the public water systems met all quality standards for contaminants.
The report for 2023 highlighted efforts to help public water systems provide sustainable and healthy drinking water in the state.
This was made possible due to the joint efforts of the DNR, public water system owners and operators, and other partners.
Other funding also played a large role. This included $155 million from the Wisconsin Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) to ensure safe drinking water.
Additionally, Governor Tony Evers invested $10 million into the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) to expand the state’s Well Compensation Grant Program.
A majority of this extra funding went towards replacing more than 1,100 lead service lines in 17 Wisconsin communities.
