U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin has announced two local cities have received millions of dollars in federal grants.
Senator Baldwin announced Wednesday (July 10th) that Green Bay and Appleton have received over $15 million collectively to improve public transportation.
The grants are from the Federal Transit Administration’s Grants for Buses and Bus Facilities program.
This program is funded by the Baldwin-backed Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill.
Appleton has received $12 million to support the completion of Valley Transit’s Whitman Facility Renovation Project.
Green Bay has received $3.1 million to replace diesel-powered buses with battery-powered, electric buses.
This will go a long way for Green Bay, as they are trying to be 100% clean energy by 2050.
Both Mayor Jake Woodford of Appleton and Mayor Eric Genrich of Green Bay were proud of their city’s efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and looked forward to what these grants will do for their respective communities.
