A Manitowoc man has been charged with child abuse and false imprisonment. Yesterday (July 10) just after 7:00 p.m.
The Manitowoc Police Department responded to a call stating the 27-year-old man kicked a baby gate at his own children.
Upon arrival, officers learned the suspect was no longer on the scene, but the mother of the children was.
The 27-year-old woman who called the police stated that the suspect became combative, throwing things across the living room of the house.
Shortly after, he kicked the baby gate, which struck the young children and sent one of them tumbling to the ground.
The woman immediately attempted to call the police on her cell phone but was quickly cornered and unable to make the call.
She then yelled, “Alexa, call 911!” in an attempt to contact authorities.
The accused man then ripped the Alexa device from the wall, once again preventing the woman from calling 911.
After a few moments, the suspect finally left the residence but before authorities arrived.
The whole situation was captured on in-home security cameras and was used by Manitowoc police as evidence.
They were unable to locate the 27-year-old man who has a lengthy history of domestic violence crimes.
However, via affidavit, he has been charged with two counts of child abuse, one count of false imprisonment, and one count of misdemeanor bail jumping.
