Disc golf fans and professionals are making their way to Manitowoc for the 24th edition of the Silver Cup tournament.
Starting this morning (July 12th) and running through Sunday, all three rounds of the professional disc golf tournament will happen at Silver Creek Park.
Each round is scheduled to kick off at 8:00 a.m., and the final putt is expected to be at 3:00 p.m. all three days.
Registration closed on July 10th, and according to Silver Cup Tournament Director Jim Van Lanen Jr., over 120 competitors are slated to battle for the top spot.
These disc golfers come from all over the US to participate in this illustrious event.
“They’re rolling in in their sprinter vans and pop-up campers,” he said with excitement. “They’re going to kind of take over the city this weekend.”
Van Lanen also spoke on Manitowoc being one of the top disc golf destinations in the world.
“We were blessed with two really nice courses, and with some volunteer help and great cooperation with the city, we’ve been able to maintain a really nice course there,” he said. “We have 36 holes at Silver Creek, and not a lot of courses in the state go from 1 to 36 that you can play straight through.”
Both Silver Creek Park and Rollin Ridge rank in the top 100 courses in the world, so it is no surprise why pros and fans alike are flocking to Manitowoc for this weekend’s tournament.
