Several submarine veteran groups are donating for the dry-docking of the USS Cobia.
About $28,000 was donated by seven submarine groups, which the Wisconsin Maritime Museum says underscores their dedication to honoring and preserving naval heritage for future generations.
The groups include the Crash Base and Great Lakes Base, Supporters of US Submarine veteran charities, the USS Chicago Base, and USS Illinois base.
Seehafer News spoke with Submarine Curator Karen Duvall about dry-docking, which is a process of bringing the World War II ear submarine out of the water to be cleaned, inspected, and repaired where necessary.
It will cost about $1.5 million to dry dock the Cobia and includes preparations, and dry dock time.
All the work on the Cobia will be done at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay.
