A 32-year-old woman accused of starting her ex-boyfriend’s clothes on fire appeared for a bail hearing Wednesday afternoon in Manitowoc County Circuit Court.
Jessica L. McKeel, who did not provide an address to the court, is charged with Arson of a Dwelling or Building, Criminal Damage to Property, and Disorderly Conduct.
Manitowoc Police and Fire Department personnel responded to the scene of a structure fire on the city’s northside Tuesday evening.
Upon arrival, they were told by the male resident that the blaze, which caused several thousand dollars worth of damage, had been extinguished.
McKeel allegedly started the fire because she was mad about things he had done during their relationship, which recently became estranged.
He told police that he had picked her up from Milwaukee on Monday and brought her back to Manitowoc in hopes of reconciling.
While being interviewed by police, McKeel admitted she knew the fire could have burnt down the house, but it was put out before any further damage could occur.
Bail was set at $5,000 recognizance, with the condition that McKeel has “no contact” with the victim or his residence.
Her initial court appearance is scheduled for August 5th at 1:30.
