The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Office alerts residents of a Facebook scam “making its rounds” online.
The scam claims the Police Department had reported a child had gone missing.
The scammers went even further, procuring a photo of the fictitious child, claiming his name was Brandan Cooper, and that he had autism which meant he was in extreme danger.
The Kewaunee Sheriff’s Office said posts such as this will appear on rummage sale or resale pages without any information for the public or contact information.
They also stated one giveaway to scams of this nature would be from accounts with little to no additional information and were recently created.
Community members are urged to check local law enforcement pages where pertinent information regarding legitimate reports and press releases can be found.
