Many area projects are receiving thousands in Wisconsin Coastal Grant dollars.
On Monday (July 15), Governor Tony Evers announced that $1.3 million of grants have been awarded through the program, which aims to enrich economic development, support quality of life, and protect and improve the Great Lake resources.
The city of Manitowoc received 2 of the 31 grants given, totaling just over $120,000.
One project that got funding will see the installation of a kayak launch and education signage at Lincoln Park on the Little Manitowoc River.
The other is to help restore a site, also on the Little Manitowoc River, to create a habitat for coastal and wetland birds.
The Town of Gibraltar was also awarded $175,000 for the purchase of 125 acres of land.
Additionally, the Wisconsin Historical Society received more than $15,000 to investigate, map, and evaluate shoreline cultural resources associated with 5 historical pier sites in Manitowoc, Sheboygan, and Ozaukee counties.
