Red Arrow Beach in Manitowoc was transformed into an art studio over the weekend for the second annual Wisconsin Sand Sculpting Festival.
Nine solo semi-pro sculptors and four double tandems carved out sand taken from the Manitowoc beach and turned it into beautiful works of art.
Earning the Judges Choice award for the solo artists was John Kruse, whose piece entitled Icarus depicted the Greek myth with impeccable detail.
That piece also was named the People’s Choice winner.
The sculptors chose “gno-ME LOVE” by Dottie Willison as their favorite.
In the double division, it was a clean sweep by John Martinez, and Sean Gallagher, whose piece entitled No Trunks Allowed depicted an elephant enjoying a drink in a hot tub.
Photos of all of the pieces can be found on the Visit Manitowoc Facebook page.
