Even with sudden changes in the presidential race, both local political parties of Manitowoc County are still focused on the upcoming 2024 Primary and General Elections.
On the Democrat side, Party Chairman Jim Hollahan explained to Seehafer News that he was incredibly proud of President Biden before he decided to drop out of the race.
“That was a very, very difficult decision he had to make,” he explained. “I think he used his elder energy in coming to that decision. It’s time to pass the leadership on to the next generation.”
And he says he’s excited to see Vice President Kamala Harris to become the presumptive presidential nominee for the Democrats.
While the choice for president will be different, Hollahan says canvassing doesn’t change.
“Look forward to us moving forward, knocking on doors, talking to voters,” he stated. “It’s those conversations that are really important…Encouraging people to get out to vote.”
He also says they want to talk to voters about the future and get a clear focus about this campaign for the most powerful job in the world.
For the Republican Party, Party Chairman Don Zimmer says the same thing: they are not going to change anything because they will oppose whoever becomes the Democrat’s nominee.
In a previous interview, Zimmer said about Biden and Harris, “I don’t think he’s going to be the nominee, which puts the Democrats in a very tricky position. What are they going to do with Kamala Harris, who doesn’t have dementia but is not a very intelligent woman.”
He also called now Republican Presidential Nominee Donald Trump a strong candidate that can beat Biden or Harris.
Trump accepted the nomination for president during the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee last week. The Democratic National Convention takes place next month in Chicago.
The Primary Election takes place on August 13th, while the General Election is on November 5th.
