A new hotel will be coming to Manitowoc in the next few years.
A ceremonial groundbreaking was held yesterday (July 23rd) with city officials and Odyssey Hotels, the company tasked with building the brand-new Hampton Inn by 2026 and a Mariott Hotel by 2030.
Odyssey CEO Rachit Dhingra said that the company is very excited to build where the SS Badger sails.
“We’re looking forward to working with the city, the Chamber, and very excited about the project,” he explained. “Especially very excited about having the first built-in hotel and then to follow up with the first Marriot Hotel in the city.”
Dhingra also explained that the hotel will be different from other hotels because the first floor will be dedicated to more lobby space.
“We don’t have any rooms on the first floor,” he described. “So, the first floor is going to be more catered towards meetings and events and things along those lines.”
Mayor Justin Nickels Justin Nickels calls the future hotel not only important for tourism but important for local businesses.
Community Development Director Adam Tegan, who’s been working closely with Odyssey, explained that there were several hoops to jump through regarding zoning and height restrictions for the new building.
Tegan says now that everything is in place, his job is to “Just kind of get out of the way.”
He tells Seehafer News that the “building plans have been submitted. I believe the permits have been issued so it’s just really monitoring it during construction and then again just keeping and eye on things hoping that stabilizes quickly so we can move on to the next one.”
The new Hampton Inn will feature 84 guest rooms, including 44 king rooms, three suits, and 37 two-queen rooms.
It is supposed to also come with a fitness center, swimming pool, and conference rooms.
