Wisconsin is on the path to potentially receiving its first national park designation.
The House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Federal Lands is set to review proposed legislation to designate the Apostle Islands as a national park.
Currently, the islands, located in far northwestern Wisconsin, are designated as a national lakeshore.
State Seventh District Congressman Tom Tiffany introduced the legislation to elevate their status to a national park.
The Apostle Islands have held the national lakeshore designation since 1970.
