State Representative Janel Brandtjen from Menomonee Falls is suing the Wisconsin Ethics Commission over claims she believes are excessive.
Brandtjen filed the lawsuit last week, accusing the Commission of attempting to initiate a political prosecution against her.
The Commission alleged in February that Brandtjen violated state election laws by transferring money to support the campaign of Assembly Speaker Robin Vos’ opponent.
Despite the Commission’s suggestion for criminal charges, prosecutors in several counties declined to proceed.
Brandtjen’s lawsuit seeks to prevent the Ethics Commission from taking further action, citing constitutional and separation of powers violations.
