Wisconsin’s public health officials have confirmed the state’s first cases of West Nile Virus for the year.
The Department of Health Services announced yesterday that the virus was detected in a person from Washington County and in a dead bird from Chippewa County.
The Washington County case was identified through a routine blood donation screening, as the individual showed no symptoms.
West Nile Virus is not uncommon in Wisconsin, with cases typically peaking in August and September when mosquito activity is highest at dusk.
