The Appleton Police Department is warning residents of a scam that involved one of their own.
A fraudster has been posing as Lieutenant Holdorf, the leader of the department’s Special Investigations Unit and a Team Leader on the SWAT Team, and demanding payment for missed court appearances.
Other tactics may be used, as well as other officers’ names, but the facts remain the same: the caller is a scammer.
The Appleton Police Department is reminding residents that they will “NEVER ask for payment over the phone.”
If you or someone you know does receive such a call, you are encouraged to hang up.
If you are unsure about the legitimacy of the call, you are encouraged to hang up and call the actual phone number of the agency or entity the caller claimed to represent.
