Four local students have been showing a delegation of Japanese students around Manitowoc and Eastern Wisconsin after their trip to Japan earlier this year.
If there was one consensus between the local students, it would be that the Japanese people were kind and welcoming.
That is one part of the trip Manitowoc Lincoln Senior and Honor Rolee Micha Swemke really enjoyed, calling them “very respectful and kind and considerate.”
He also told Seehafer News he was a fan of the Japanese architecture he saw, calling it “unique.”.
Fellow Shipbuilder and Honor Roll awardee Neroli Fuller specifically praised her host family but also said she enjoyed trying new foods.
“I got to try lots of new sushi that I hadn’t tried,” she explained. “I was very excited about that.”
Hanna Welch, a Senior at Valders High School also enjoyed her time with her host family, specifically “Getting to know all of them. Just being able to experience what their regular days are and what their home life is like.”
While Ben Bryce also had high praise for the Japanese people, the Junior at Mishicot High School also enjoyed the scenery.
“The sites are amazing,” he recalled. “Just a bunch of hills. Just really nice views of everywhere you go.”
The five Japanese students began their trek back home yesterday morning (August 8th) after visiting Bay Beach Amusement Park, the Manitowoc Fire Department, the Manitowoc Marina, the Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center, and, of course, Bernice the Cow and Cedar Crest Ice Cream.
