A former University of Wisconsin regent is calling for a pause on the closure of more branch campuses.
During a meeting of the Legislative Study Committee on the Future of the University of Wisconsin at the Capitol yesterday, former Regent Bob Atwell recommended halting any further closures until it can be confirmed that these actions are indeed saving the university money.
The University of Wisconsin has closed or announced plans to close several branch campuses in an effort to reduce its deficit.
Atwell emphasized the need to ensure that these cuts are achieving the necessary financial savings.
University President Jay Rothman has previously stated that declining student numbers at the branch campuses make it difficult to keep them open.
