The 14-year-old who brought an air rifle to Mount Horeb Middle School had been planning the attack for several months, according to a journal released by the state’s Department of Justice.
The journal, which the student began in January, detailed an eight-step plan for the May 1st attack, including sneaking into the school during lunch, setting fire to the library, and targeting popular students.
The journal also revealed that the student intended to hide in the school and die, apologizing to the officers he anticipated would shoot him.
The Dane County District Attorney has cleared the officers involved in the incident, stating that their actions were justified.
