The Mishicot Historical Museum wants everyone to be able to learn about the history of the village through a different platform.
The museum got a $13,000 grant through the West Foundation in Manitowoc and is now scanning pictures, articles, and videos about the village’s history.
The items are then put on their website for everyone to see.
Volunteer Michael Steeber, who’s been working on archiving items online, says the project started about a year ago.
“It’s been an ongoing project,” he explained. “The museum is staffed by volunteers, so it’s been slow going. And it’s come together throughout the year.”
It was also about a year ago when the Mishicot Historical Museum recognized there was a need to bring the collections online.
Steeber explained, “We’ve realized that if we want future generations to be interested in local history that we need to continue to preserve it in new ways that are more relevant.”
Steeber also says because the museum is volunteer run, it can be tough for people to come in certain times of the year and do research.
The Mishicot Historical Museum is always looking for more photos about the village’s history.
So far there are over 3,500 artifacts online at their website, MishicotMuseum.com.
More artifacts the museum owns will continue to be put online.
