Wisconsin voters rejected two amendments to the Wisconsin State Constitution during yesterday’s Primary Election.
The amendments would have given power to the Wisconsin Legislature to decide where money from the federal government would go instead of it all being decided by Wisconsin’s governor.
Both no votes mean the power of where federal money goes will stay in the governor’s hands.
Each amendment was rejected by Wisconsin voters by at least 180,000 votes statewide.
In Manitowoc County, voters voted in favor of having the amendments passed according to unofficial election results.
Democrats opposed the amendments saying that if the amendments passed, they would create more gridlock in the Legislature, block emergency response funding, and eliminate checks and balances.
Republicans wanted the amendments to pass so they could prevent the “executive branch,” meaning the governor’s office, from spending millions of dollars on what could be considered personal projects.
They also said they would provide checks and balances.
