A model airplane extravaganza returns today in Fond du Lac.
Warbirds and Classics Over the Midwest gets underway today and continues for the next three days.
Enthusiasts of remote-controlled military and vintage aircraft fly their remote-controlled aircraft at Wellnitz Field just south of Hickory Road.
Event Organizer Doug Woolridge said on the WCUB Breakfast Club that over 125 pilots from all over the US and Canada show up every year with more than 350 model airplanes from every era.
“We had, I think, about 26 airplanes in the air last year,” he explained. “These were models of WWI airplanes, so mostly bi-planes and triplanes. And all of these (airplanes) are at least quarter scale, so we’re talking at least seven- or eight-foot wingspans and up.”
Woolridge says visitors can get up close to the airplanes and talk to the pilots.
The three-day air show also includes food and drinks, and there will be raffles available for purchase.
It will cost $10 for parking, but one $10 pass is good for all three days.
