The first of three phases of the Manitowoc County Courthouse and Dome repair and renovation project are moving right along.
County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer Ziegelbauer said while on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the initial bid to replace the more than 200 courthouse windows came in under projected estimates.
“That was pegged for four million dollars, but we got a bid from a local general contractor, Hamann Construction (of Manitowoc) for three million,” he explained. “We saved a million from the original estimate. It will take about 18 months to complete the project.”
Meanwhile, Ziegelbauer says work on replacing the antiquated HVAC system could begin this fall; however, “We have to order parts, but we have to take a look at a couple of things in preparation for that that are going on right now.”
A bid of $1,700,000 has come in for the drawings and engineering rehabilitation of the courthouse dome, which Ziegelbauer says is not yet going forward as an agreement has not yet been finalized.
The current estimate for the repair of the dome itself is approximately $20 to $25 million.
The County Executive adds that part of the project is at least a year or two away.
The new courthouse windows are expected to arrive in January, and you can keep up to date on this project by logging onto the Manitowoc County website.
