Tonnage totals for the Port of Green Bay are down compared to this time last year.
An announcement from the Brown County Port and Resources Department says the port reached 229,004 tons of material, with the year-to-date total being a little more than 864,600 tons.
That’s a slight decrease of about 7% from last year at this time.
Port Director Dean Haen says, “We’ve been expecting the mild winter last year to have an impact on this year’s salt tonnage.”
However, unless something changes, the Port of Green Bay is expecting its commodities to keep pace.
The leading cargo in July was limestone, with about 95,300 tons.
Other materials brought in included cement, salt, petroleum products, coal, and wood pulp.
A few more ships have made it into the Port of Green Bay this year.
Haen says during the month of July, the Port saw 22 ships enter, bringing the year-to-date total to 84 vessels. During the same period last year, 81 ships visited the Port.
