The Manitowoc Lincoln Girls Tennis Team opened their season Thursday with a pair of impressive wins at a tournament in Green Bay.
Coach Stephanie Henschel says the Ships scored 5-2 victories over Oshkosh West and Shawano at Bayview Middle School.
They took three of four singles matches, and two of three doubles matches against West, while Lincoln swept three doubles matches and split four singles matches against The Hawks.
Jordin Popp lost only two games while going 2 and 0 at number one singles, while the number one doubles team of Zylia Klienfeldt and Taylor Petersen lost only three games in sweeping a pair of matches.
The highlight of the day may have been the number two doubles tandem of Reiley Blaser and Breleigh Kowalski producing a double bagel victory (6-0,6-0) against their opponent from Shawano, on their way to a 2 and 0 record on the day.
Other Ships victories came from Allison Oatis, Sophia Levilin, and Jersie Pankratz in singles, along with the doubles team of Maddy Black and Lily Wiesner.
The Ships return to Green Bay Friday morning for matches against Roncalli/Two Rivers and Stevens Point. The competition begins at 10:30 a.m.
