The Green Bay Police Department is asking parents to talk to their children about the safe use of gel or water bead toy guns.
These toys became popular a couple of years ago, with some designed to look like real guns.
This has led to some incidents, like one at a Manitowoc elementary school last year, when a student approached the building brandishing a toy gun that witnesses say appeared to be real while children were playing outside after school.
The police were called out of an abundance of caution, and the day ended without any violence.
Green Bay Police Department notes that the projectiles can be dangerous if safety precautions are not taken, with eye injuries and choking both possible issues.
There are also potential legal ramifications if they are misused, with charges including Disorderly Conduct and Battery potential outcomes.
The Department also posted the ordinance related to Restrictions on use of Facsimile Firearms, which states that no one is allowed to carry or display a fake gun in an attempt to “alarm, intimidate, threaten, or terrify another person.”
