It appears that newly acquired Malik Willis will be the backup to Jordan Love in Green Bay.
The Packers have released Sean Clifford and Micheal Pratt as they continue preparing the 53-man roster for opening day, Friday, September 6th, in Brazil against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Clifford was a fifth-round pick out of Penn State who showed signs of excellence last summer but never really reached that point in this training camp.
Pratt was a seventh-round pick out of Tulane and led Green Bay on a touchdown drive in the preseason finale against Baltimore on Saturday.
He appeared to outplay Clifford Saturday, but the Packers felt that the entire body of work for both wasn’t enough for coaches to entrust either one with the backup role in Green Bay.
Meanwhile, Kicker Anders Carlsen, inconsistent throughout his short stint in Green Bay, was cut Tuesday, leaving the job for now to veteran Greg Joesph.
Other noteworthy cuts on Tuesday include Wide Receiver Samari Toure, Linebacker Kristin Welch, and Running Back Nate McCrary.
The 53-man roster must be set by 3 p.m. Tuesday. NFL Teams can start signing up to 16 players to their practice squads Wednesday at 11 a.m.
