An Omro man will spend 30 years in prison for killing his girlfriend.
FOX11 reports that yesterday (August 29th), 23-year-old Joseph Olvera appeared in court for a sentencing hearing after pleading no contest to the first-degree reckless homicide of his girlfriend, 20-year-old Johanna Schultz.
The homicide took place on March 11th of last year, and Olvera himself called the police to report the death of Schultz, which an autopsy determined “smothering” to be the cause of death.
On Olvera’s call to police, he also indicated he had firearms and was planning to commit suicide.
When SWAT teams arrived, a lengthy stand-off took place between Olvera and law enforcement, which involved the 23-year-old firing multiple shots inside the residence.
Eventually, Olvera exited the house wearing armor with multiple firearms but eventually he gave himself up with no injuries to police.
In addition to the 30 years Olvera will spend in prison, he will be on 20 years of extended supervision.
