Milwaukee Public School leaders say they are working on a deal to bring police officers back to the city’s schools, but don’t look for the officers to return anytime soon.
Interim Superintendent Eduardo Galvan yesterday said the district is still working with Milwaukee Police to hammer out an agreement on what the officers will do if they’re allowed back into school buildings.
MPS booted school resources officers back in 2020, but a new state law requires that the city’s schools bring them back.
Galvan said he wants to be sure as to the role of school resource officers.
However, the agreement on roles doesn’t include an agreement on costs. Galvan says any financial arrangement with the MPD has to be a separate agreement.
