The Sheboygan Fire Department has received a U.S. Department of Homeland Security Grant to purchase six new cardiac monitors.
At Wednesday’s Licensing, Hearings, and Public Safety Committee meeting, the fire department received approval to accept the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) they had been awarded.
This grant is worth $361,739 and the AFG program aims to give aid to fire departments across the country to obtain highly critical equipment.
The AFG program requires a 10 percent match on any grants given and the $36,173 will be taken out of the fire department’s budget.
The current cardiac monitors that are being replaced via the grant are over eight years old and in desperate need of being upgraded.
The replacement of the monitors has been requested for three years and with this federal grant, can now be exchanged for top-of-the-line equipment vital to keeping Sheboyganites safe.
