The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater community is mourning the loss of a student who was tragically killed.
Authorities have taken a suspect into custody in connection with the shooting of 21-year-old Kara Welsh.
Kara, a dedicated member of the university’s gymnastics team, earned a national title in the vault last year.
According to investigators, the incident occurred on Friday night at an off-campus apartment.
Details about the suspect and their relationship to Kara have not been disclosed.
The university is providing counseling services to the gymnastics team, and additional support will be available for students as they return to classes tomorrow.
