A lot of work was done on Two Rivers Public Schools before the start of the new school year.
District Finance Director Mary Kay Slattery explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest program that the $38.7 million referendum approved by voters in 2022 has been used for improvements at every school in the district.
Magee and Koenig Elementary got safe and secure entrances, new playground equipment, and air conditioning.
Two Rivers High School has a new parking lot, air conditioning chiller, and safe and secure entrances, but most of the work has been done at L.B Clark Middle School, including the brand-new addition, which is almost fully completed.
The addition includes a new area for 5th graders and expanded classrooms for every grade.
Bryan Kaiser, with CG Schmid, described some of the new features of the new area.
“There’s four science labs that are put in,” he explained. “And then there’s an art room, there’s a brand-new band room and choir room, all with the most up-to-date sound recording equipment so students can hear themselves play and hear it back.”
Slattery says this is something that residents can be proud of.
“We did a lot of work, especially at Clark,” she described. “Clark was built in 1969, so we did electrical upgrades. I mean, we touched so much of that building, and it looks fantastic.”
Kaiser says those were considered phases 1 and 2, while phase 3 is still being worked on.
It will include a new gym at L.B Clark and an expanded cafeteria. Some work still needs to be done while school is back in session, including new bathrooms in the cafeteria.
The project broke ground in October last year.
