There’s a new fire truck in the Sheboygan Fire Department’s fleet.
An announcement from Assistant Fire Chief Jeffery Salzman explains that Rescue 1862, a new rescue pumper truck at Station 2 was placed into service on August 13th at 7:00 am.
The new fire truck holds about 750 gallons of water and has a 1500-gallons-per-minute water pump with foam capabilities.
Rescue 1862 also carries extrication equipment used to remove individuals from motor vehicles or heavy equipment accidents and technical rescue equipment, which includes scenarios such as high angle, confined space, and trench rescues.
Since firefighters can also be trained as EMTs, the fire apparatus has life support equipment on board. The Sheboygan City Council approved the new pumper in the 2022 capital improvement budget, replacing a 26-year-old fire apparatus.
The new pumper was built in Appleton by Pierce Manufacturing, who was named the Coolest Thing Made in Wisconsin 2022 winner for an electric fire truck they created.
Rescue 1862 will serve the community for the next 10-15 years as a frontline apparatus before being placed in reserve status.
