A Sheboygan man who was convicted in a child sexual assault case has been sentenced.
79-year-old Norman Baumann was ordered by Manitowoc County Judge Jerilyn Dietz to spend a total of 10 years in prison, nine months in the Manitowoc County Jail, and 10 years on extended supervision.
He was found guilty due to no-contest pleas on one count of 4th Degree Sexual Assault and two counts of Child Enticement with Sexual Contact.
Baumann’s defense team tried to get his prison time stayed due to health concerns, but the state argued that the “community may not feel safe if the defendant’s sentence were to be stayed and he were to be released.”
Baumann was arrested in June of 2023 after he touched three children inappropriately while watching them.
He also offered his grandchild vapes for sexual favors numerous times over three years.
If he were to be released on extended supervision, Baumann would be ordered to have no contact with the victims nor anyone under 18, while also maintaining absolute sobriety and not having any contact with anyplace that has a primary purpose of selling or consuming alcohol.
