The Wisconsin Supreme Court has agreed to take up the case surrounding the state’s top election official, Meagan Wolfe, and whether she can remain in her role.
The case stems from a challenge by the state legislature regarding Wolfe’s continued service without an official reappointment by the Elections Commission.
Last year, the commission decided against reappointing Wolfe to avoid a confirmation vote in the State Senate, which was expected to fail.
A judge from Dane County ruled that Wolfe could stay in her position as the state’s election administrator.
The legislature quickly appealed to the Supreme Court, which agreed to hear the case.
However, no hearing date has been set, meaning a decision likely won’t be made until next year, after the November election and a possible shift in legislative power.
