It was another successful year for active killer training with law enforcement in Manitowoc County.
The drill was held this past Friday (September 13th) at Manitowoc City Hall.
Firefighters and police entered the building and trained as if there were an active killer incident.
Manitowoc Police Lieutenant Mark Schroeder tells Seehafer News that everything went well and that it was well attended with roughly 20 different departments attending.
“We’re talking many volunteer fire departments, state patrol, DNR, Two Rivers, Manitowoc County Sheriff’s,” he explained. “Just about anybody who is law enforcement or medical.”
The drill not only helps train police in what to do in a situation they hopefully will never have to be in, but Schroeder says the active killer drill is also important for fire and EMS to help people following an incident.
“We have many volunteers here, the student’s academy was here,” Schroeder described. “They have fake wounds on them, so they have to be triaged. A medical comes in and does what they have to do at that level and load them into ambulances and take them out.”
Seehafer News spoke with Branch Fire Chief Joey Stradal, who told us he had five firefighters in training on Friday.
The active killer drills take place throughout the county with it happening last year at Hope Church.
Schroeder says they’ve also done it at Mishicot High School. County emergency services will continue to do the drill every year because every situation can be different.
It’s not known when or where it will happen next year.
