Some changes will be coming to the Manitowoc Marina.
Mayor Justin Nickels explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest Program that the common council approved a $1.5 million bid from Lunda Construction to completely replace Marina A Dock.
“That’s one of the oldest docks, probably 40-something years now since the marina was first built.” Nickels described.
The city isn’t paying for the entire project.
Nickels explains that the city received a $500,000 federal grant to help with the replacement.
Money from a separate fund used for the Manitowoc Marina’s lease will also help pay for the project.
Nickels says when the A Dock project is done, it will look a little different.
“It’s going to be designed a little differently,” he stated. “There’s going to be some transient dock there. Also, they’re going to build to allow for some larger boats because when they built is 40 years ago, it was a different type of clientele back in the day. Now, they have some larger ones.”
Marina A Dock is the largest one in the marina and the one that has fuel for boats.
The project will be done during the winter and should be completed before next year’s boating season.
