Manitowoc Lutheran and Valders were a combined 27 and 5 heading into Tuesday night’s non-conference showdown in high school girls’ volleyball in Valders, and the match lived up to the hype and then some.
The Vikings jumped on the visiting Lancers, winning the first two sets 25-22 and 25 to 19, only to have the visitors rally to win the following three sets 25-11, 25-16, and 25-7, and the match three sets to two.
The victory improves The Lancers, the second-ranked team in the Division Four wissports.net coaches’ poll, to 12 and 2 and extends their winning streak to nine straight, while The Vikings slip to 16 and 4 on the season.
Valders returns to EWC play Thursday night, hosting a very good Sheboygan Falls team at 7 p.m. The Lancers will hit the road for an Invitational at Wisconsin Lutheran College in Wauwatosa on Saturday, then have a Big East matchup in Kohler next Tuesday night against The Blue Bombers.
