The Door County Sheriff’s Office has concluded its investigation into the shooting of a 300-pound pig.
A post on the Door County Sheriff’s Facebook page gives the link to five videos surrounding the shooting of the pig, which deputies said was crossing Highway 42 several times.
Deputies say while they’ve been transparent with the public about the search for the loose pig, there has been a lot of misinformation.
The continue to say the videos provide all the details as to how the incident unfolded and that the deputies’ actions to shoot the pig were justified.
While some will disagree with the actions taken by the deputy who shot the pig, sheriffs say public safety is law enforcement’s first responsibility.
Other factors came into play as well, according to sheriffs. The time of day, the pig’s proximity to the highway, and the number of times it walked onto the highway before.
Deputies finish by saying she’s spoken to numerous community members over the last few days, and no matter where they stand, they hope to move forward and put the incident behind them.
The Facebook announcement will be the final statement on the incident.
