It’s almost time for cities and counties to start looking at their budgets for 2025, but with the Manitowoc County District Attorney’s Office budget, it’s a little bit different.
DA Jacalyn LeBre explained on WOMT’s Be My Guest Program that their county budget has been submitted, but it’s unique compared to other departments.
“We have two budgets we have to deal with,” she explained. “The state pays for our attorneys and our computer system. The county pays for everything else.”
That includes offices, supplies, paralegals, and victim witnesses.
Their budget for the state will be submitted later and will focus on closer to the governor and Wisconsin Legislature start discussing it.
LeBre says the biggest issue is making sure county attorneys will stay through pay progression.
Other Manitowoc County committees are also discussing their budgets as the County Board of Supervisors’ approval date approaches.
