Milwaukee police report that crime in the city has been steadily declining.
The latest third-quarter crime statistics, released yesterday, show significant drops in both homicides and shootings.
Homicides are down 22% compared to the same period last year, while shootings decreased by 23%.
Overall, the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) notes a 4% reduction in major crimes such as homicides, rapes, robberies, aggravated assaults, burglaries, and vehicle thefts compared to last summer.
However, individual crimes like robberies, car thefts, and carjackings have increased, with carjackings up 17% from 2023.
Despite the recent improvements, police acknowledge that crime levels remain significantly higher than pre-pandemic rates in 2020.
