The Valders Area School District is explaining more of what will be in the referendum on November ballots.
Superintendent Kristen DeTroye tells Seehafer News that the district is asking the public to approve the referendum, which would help fill a void in the School Resource Officer position.
DeTroye explained that they are the “only public school in our county without an SRO,” and called filling the role “an absolute priority for the safety of the students and staff.”
The plan is to have Sheriff Dan Hartwig deputize an officer from the outside agency and collaborate with all involved parties to provide SRO coverage to Valders Area School District.
The operational referendum will be on the ballot on November 5th, with the district listing needs such as an SRO, Math Interventionist, re-opening the pool, and revenue shortfalls.
DeTroye also noted that state aid is not keeping up with the rate of inflation, causing a “lag in what we are able to provide for our students.”
The district will also host an informational session on the referendum on October 16th, 20th, 21st, and 29th.
The full details of those sessions and more information on the referendum question can be found on the district website.
