Lois Marie Nelson, age 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, October 11, 2024 surrounded at home by her loving family.
She was born September 1, 1938 in Binford, North Dakota, daughter of the late Warren J. and Evelyn M. (Finstuen) Bruns. Lois attended Lincoln High School, Tacoma, Washington, graduating with the class of 1956. On October 13, 1978 she married Captain Henry Eugene “Gene” Nelson at First Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2022. As a devout Christian, Lois lived her faith every moment of her life. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved her horses and pets, and also enjoyed gardening and spending time with nature.
Lois is survived by four children: Kim Simonis, Cheryl (Kevin) Glaeser, Warren (Tina) Hayden, and Bruns; two step-children: Michael (Marion) Nelson and Sherry Nelson Rodrigues; six grandchildren: Tanya Tsokolas (Athan), Josh Simonis, Lisa Simonis (Omar), Nicole Fischer (Brad), Nick Glaeser (Amber), Connor Hayden, and other grandchildren; great-grandchildren: Coco, George, Roselyn, Emma, Elise, Keirstin, Chloe, Cam’ron, Kaylee, and other great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law: Jerilyn Nelson Hawthorne. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents: Warren and Evelyn Bruns; her husband: Captain Gene Nelson; and her grandson: Davey.
Cremation has occurred at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory, Manitowoc, and a private family service will be held at a later date.

Many thanks to her physical and occupational therapy team: Luke, Eric, and Christal. Mom always wanted to get her strength and independence back again and you all gave her the hope everyday that it would happen.
Special thanks to the Aurora BayCare Emergency and Hospital team: Dr. Murphy and Kayla RN – your professionalism and excellent care you gave our mom will never be forgotten. Dr. Kuzman and all the wonderful nurses truly became part of our family. We also want to thank the Social Services Department who made mom’s coming home possible.
Finally, thank you to Aurora Hospice team – Rachel, Tanya, Jane, and Pam. Your dedication provided comfort, compassion and dignity to our mom and the impact you all had on our family was immeasurable during this difficult time. “We love you all!”
