Barry J. Vetter, age 76, of Manitowoc, passed away Tuesday morning, October 15, 2024 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay surrounded by his loving family.
Barry was born on December 22, 1947 in Manitowoc, son of the late Milton and Darlene (Lutzke) Vetter. He grew up in Manitowoc and attended local schools. Barry served in the United States Army as a combat engineer in Vietnam from May 28, 1969 until his honorable discharge on May 28, 1970. He worked as a machinist for over 44 years at Kaufman Manufacturing in Manitowoc. On October 28, 1972 Barry married Joanne Braun at St. Michael Catholic Church in Whitelaw.
Barry’s passions were riding his Honda Valkyrie motorcycle, snowmobiling, hunting, exploring caves, playing cribbage, studying early American history and shooting black powder muzzleloaders. Barry cherished spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years: Joanne Vetter, Manitowoc; their four children and spouses: Joshua (Stacy) Vetter, Manitowoc; Kristin (Mark) Hammel, Manitowoc; Kay (Jef) Bartelt, Kiel; Jacob (Jordan) Vetter, Francis Creek; 8 grandchildren: Ava Vetter; Miranda, Lucas and Lydia Hammel; Korwyn (Julissa), Kozby, Kraesyn and Josslyn Bartelt; Baby Vetter on the way; his siblings include: Dennis Vetter, Manitowoc; Kim Vetter, Manitowoc; Kristy Schultz, Manitowoc; Kathy Moser, Manitowoc; Jay (Maureen) Gosz, Valders; Mario Gosz, Manitowoc; Romy Gosz, Manitowoc; 2 brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Leon (Sharon) Braun, Whitelaw; Mary (John) Cannon, Manitowoc; along with nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Barry was preceded in death by his parents: Milton Vetter and Darlene Gosz; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Peter and Esther Braun; three brothers-in-law: Melvin Braun, Larry Braun and Peter “Rocky” Braun Jr.
A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 25, 2024 at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, 928 S. 14th Street, Manitowoc. Deacon Al Boeldt will officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Military honors will be accorded by the Vietnam Veterans Chapter #731 of Manitowoc, following the memorial service at the funeral home. Cremation took place at the All-Care Cremation Center.
