This week is National Forest Products Week, and the Wisconsin DNR is recognizing what’s been done in the Badger State.
The DNR says the forest products industry employed around 58,000 people in Wisconsin and paid over $4 billion in labor income.
The forest products industry ranked twelfth in terms of the number of full and part-time jobs.
It’s the number one employer in seven counties, including Winnebago, and was one of the top ten industries for value-added, which includes Manitowoc, Sheboygan, Kewaunee, Brown, and Outagamie Counties.
Brown County had the largest number of forest products industry jobs and industry output and also had the largest number of pulp, paper, and products of paper manufacturing jobs and industry output in the state.
According to 2021 statistics in Manitowoc County, the forest product industry ranked 6th in terms of industry output for the county.
Every million dollars of output in the industry also generated an additional $211,000 in output.
