The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is alerting residents about the presence of invasive carp in two rivers in western Wisconsin.
The DNR reported yesterday (October 28th) that silver carp, a harmful invasive species in the Midwest, has been detected in the lower Chippewa and Black Rivers.
These fish have caused significant damage in other river systems where they’ve spread.
The DNR began investigating this summer after receiving reports of fish leaping from the water in both rivers.
The presence of carp was confirmed last month.
Currently, the DNR believes the carp have not spread further, though no specific action plan has been announced.
