The crew behind the Civil War Gravesite Restoration project is starting on a new set of gravestones.
Dan Reinke, the organizer of the restoration project, has announced that on Veterans Day (November 11th), volunteers are needed to help clean the grave sites of Civil War veterans at Calvary Chapel Mausoleum.
An opening ceremony will be held at 9:45 p.m., with scrubbing starting at 10:00.
Over the past three years, over 400 volunteers have helped clean all 231 Civil War gravesites in Evergreen Cemetery, which is about one-third of the total number of such gravesites in the County.
The group hopes to get enough volunteers to clean the final resting place of 35 Civil War soldiers at Calvary Cemetery at 2601 South 14th Street in Manitowoc.
Volunteers are asked to bring gloves, a pad to sit or kneel on, and their reverence for those who have gone before us.
The cleaning supplies will be provided.
This cleaning event is sponsored by the Manitowoc County Civil War Round Table and the Calvary Chapel Mausoleum.
