The Sheboygan City Plan Commission is set to discuss the opening of a warming center.
The Plan Commission will meet today (October 29th) inside the Council Chambers at City Hall at 4:00 p.m.
Amongst their items for discussion is a conditional use permit to open a warming shelter inside the Saint Luke Methodist Church located at 623 Ontario Avenue in Downtown Sheboygan.
The proposed shelter would be for individuals over the age of 18 who may be suffering from homelessness.
The Saint Methodist Church site has been selected because it already houses the Community Café, BabyCare, and a food pantry.
They believe the warming center would fit in well as the location already sees many low-income and homeless individuals.
Early estimates suggest that 30 to 45 guests a night would be accommodated by three to four employees and an additional three to four volunteers.
If approved, Saint Luke Methodist Church hopes to help and temporarily house those in need in a dignified manner.
