High Cliff State Park in Sherwood has received grant funding from the Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund.
The DNR has announced the grant has been awarded to High Cliff to aid in the removal of invasive species from a 30-acre restored prairie.
This prairie has become overrun with autumn olives and buckthorns, which have crowded out native prairie plants. High Cliff State Park is home to many endangered creatures, including state-endangered yellow bumblebees and federally-endangered rusty-patched bumblebees.
High Cliff was one of five locations awarded a total of $80,000 in funding from the Cherish Wisconsin Outdoors Fund to restore high-priority lands across the state.
The Cherish Fund is primarily funded by voluntary contributions from the public when purchasing hunting and fishing licenses.
