The Manitowoc County Emergency Management Department is reminding residents to be safe tonight while out trick-or-treating.
Director Rhonda Green said on the WCUB Breakfast Club that, again, it’s important to have a well-lit area for kids who come up to get candy.
It’s also important to make sure not too much is on the porch because it could cause a tripping hazard.
For costume wearers, Green suggests trick or treaters, “Use reflective material or apply reflective tape to your costume so others can see you, including cars. If you where a mask, test it for full visibility and breathability. And if you’re costume includes a toy sword or a weapon, keep it sheathed.”
Green also reminds parents to check their kids’ candy after trick-or-treating to make sure everything is wrapped like it should be.
It’s also a good idea to make sure to check for candy that could cause an allergic reaction if a kid has something like a peanut allergy.
While trick-or-treating, Green says it’s important for parents to make sure they are safe while out.
“Teach your children to walk and not run and do not cut between houses,” she stated. “Use your sidewalks where the streets are lit up well. This helps you too avoid trip hazard, dog bites, and even stranger danger situations.”
If you’re driving, Green says it’s important to take it slow in areas where kids might be around.
Trick-or-Treating times can be found on the Seehafer News Facebook page.
