With the temperature cooling down, it’s time to start turning on your furnaces and heaters.
ReadyWisconsin uses daylight savings as a reminder to get your appliances checked. Carbon monoxide is a very harmful gas that can leak from your heaters and furnaces.
These harmful gases cause about 35 deaths a year in Wisconsin and ReadyWisconsin encourages Wisconsinites to install or have their Carbon monoxide detectors checked.
They encourage homeowners to have their detectors installed in a central location outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of your home.
Batteries in these alarms should be replaced at least once a year.
The carbon monoxide alarm should be replaced around every five to seven years, based on the manufacturer’s instructions.
